India
is an Anglophone country, since mid-1600 hundreds when merchants of
all countries, especially England, traveled to the country attracted
by its spices, jewelry and beauty.

English
became the official language of the country when the British Empire
brought the country under the Crown of England. Today in India, the
people speak a mixture of the English and Indian languages called
Hindi.

Calcutta
is the most populous city in India. The city is well known around the
world due to a very famous figure, Mother Teresa, who lived and
worked in the city for many years.

Calcutta
is a city where many cultures coexist, and where great wealth mixes
with extreme poverty. The joy of its people comes from the smells of
their kitchens where you find Traditional India Cuisine which
includes many curry recipes.
Calcutta
is located in eastern India in the Ganges River delta. In the Ganges
River, people go about their daily life using the river water to
bath, cook, and wash their clothes.
The
climate is tropical in the summer months with monsoon rains.
The
local people call the monsoon storms Kal Baisakhi.
Pollution is quite
high in Calcutta because there are too many vehicles in the city.

Calcutta
is home to the Victoria Memorial, which was built when India was part
of the British Em
pire. It is a museum dedicated to paintings and to
the preservation of history documents. In the museum, there are large
oil paintings in the Gallery Real, illustrating episodes from the
long and eventful life of Queen Victoria.

Located
in the southern part of the city is the Kalighat, a temple dating
from around 1890 and dedicated to the patron goddess of the city,
Kali.

The city has a large flower market that is a very beautiful and
well known. In the market, you can find many different varieties of
flowers, which the people buy to make offerings to their gods.

In
Calcutta there are still the rickshaw pulled by a man without shoes
and without the aid of pedals or motor.

The
football and cricket are the most popular sports in the city.

I
chose this wonderful city Kolkata because I collaborate on a project
called New Light for the children of prostitutes in the red light
district, to get an education, for a future best.We annually
celebra
ante a party "Barha Party" ( Barha mean party in
indian) in Spain to raise funds for these children who so obviously
need. I recommend a book by a friend and collaborator of this
project, called Hernan Zinan her book "Ice Cream
d chips"
tells the reality that unfortunately live day by day these children.
